Welcome to Southern Belle Products

Navigating Nature for Adventures at Home and on the Go

Born and raised in Georgia, I grew up with nature as a friend and a foe. Exploring the great outdoors, ticks, bugs, sticks and mud found me, but I also found a way to restore my injuries and repair my skin in natural ways. Baking soda would relieve a bug bite and a good salt scrub would clean up the messiest of knees. There was no need to go to the drugstore when all I needed was to look at the solutions mother nature provided.

Fast forward years later and I decided to launch Southern Belle Products. A place where my true southern belle spirit meets surviving what life throws our way. This is where skin care and aromatherapy bring the great outdoors to you and where paracord and survival essentials bring you safely into the great outdoors. For me, it’s about bringing together the best of both worlds – loving my time relaxing at home and enjoying my moments outdoors.

Unlike most body product and home aromatherapy lines, my belief is less is more. I say yes to all natural ingredients and I just say no to artificial fillers. A bath should be an organic experience, not full of synthetic sensory and skin irritants. A home should smell clean and natural, not overly stuffy and headache inducing. I search out the ingredients for my line with an eye towards what is closest to the earth, not what is the cheapest or quickest to procure. Each item is made by hand, with you in mind.

When it comes to venturing outside, I want to experience it safely and I want that for you, too. With loved ones in the military, I know what it means to be prepared. My Paracord Series provides stylish, yet survival inspired elements – items readily available should you need a helping hand (or rope) in case of emergency. My “Oh Sh*t!” Series keeps you fully equipped on the go. From Watertight Boxes with all the essentials, to Mini Everyday Carry Kits for quick fixes. Outfitting yourself is the best choice before venturing outside.

Thanks for stopping by and welcome to Southern Belle Products! I’m looking forward to many great adventures to come – and yours, too!

Survival Tips: Preparing for Adventure

Planning a trip outside, even for a short daytime hike, should always include some essential planning and prepping steps to ensure your well-being and safety. Print off this handy checklist for yourself, a friend, or that teenager in your life to ensure that the next adventure does not go awry. It’s always better to be overly prepared for a little journey than to be underprepared for an unexpected, big adventure.

Make a Plan: It’s best to travel in pairs, or more. Buddy up and then tell someone where you are going and what time you expect to be back. Check in with them once you are home to let them know you made it safely.

Make a List:

  • Hiking shoes or trail shoes to get you there and back
  • Backpack to hold all the essentials
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and hat to protect yourself from the sun, even on cloudy days
  • First Aid Kit for any scrapes or injuries
  • Knife or multi-purpose tool
  • Waterproof matches, flashlight, and whistle in case of emergency
  • Food and water, including a portable purifier or purifying tablets if you run out of water
  • Rain gear and some spare dry clothing
  • Map and compass, because cell phone reception and GPS may not always be available
  • Camping gear for overnight trips, including shelter and sleeping bag

Make No Mess: Leave no trace as you trek your way through the woods. In fact, try to leave Mother Nature more beautiful than how you found her. What you pack in, you should also pack out.

To cover some of your day trip essentials, check out the Everyday Carry Mini Survival Kits from Southern Belle Products. It covers many of the essentials above, so that you are ready for anything Mother Nature brings your way. Great for all day hikes or quick trips into the backcountry. For extended trips, the “Oh, Sh*t!” Watertight Survival Boxes will cover your ass(ets) so that you are ready for almost anything in the great outdoors.

Understanding Aromatherapy Scents (Part 2)

Eucalyptus and Peppermint, Making Sense of Scents

These two uplifting herbs share many of the same properties, yet are very distinct. You would never eat a eucalyptus candy cane! Let’s break down each herb, their scent, properties, and uses to better understand how chamomile and lavender can benefit us.

25d6bd_2b6fc9f8a7d54e868a329117b04cd9b5~mv2Eucalyptus: This fresh herb comes from the Myrtaceae family and is native to Australia, Tasmania, China, and portions of Europe. With an invigorating camphor aroma, this scent will penetrate your head and wake you (and your sinuses) right up. Eucalyptus works well as an antiseptic, pain reliever, expectorant, and is stimulating. Best for adults only, use it to help relieve a cough, clear up a stuffy nose, aid in lung congestion, and ease muscle pain.

Did you know?

  • Eucalyptus works well in treating bug bites and is a great bug repellent.
  • A few drops in a steamy shower will help ease sinus, lung, stuffy head, and achy body symptoms.
  • Eucalyptus has antiseptic, antifungal, and deodorizing properties.

25d6bd_724b4302fc0640b4a7009fb9f81ebc02~mv2Peppermint: Native to the Mediterranean, western Asia, and the US, this plant derives from the Lamiaceae family and produces a cool menthol aroma. Properties of peppermint include cooling, stimulation, digestion, pain relief, antibacterial, and antifungal effects. Best for adult use only and not for breastfeeding moms, it might be best to avoid if you have sensitive skin. Great for headaches, nausea, gas, cramps, upset stomach, coughs, stress, mental fatigue, and bad breath.

Did you know?

  • Peppermint contains elements of vitamins A and C.
  • Peppermint’s calming properties can improve irritable bowel syndrome symptoms.
  • Bad breath can be gone with peppermint, due to the plant killing, smell inducing bacteria in the mouth.

Both herbs are excellent to have on hand to treat a variety of symptoms, especially during the winter months when cold and flu season strikes hardest.

Understanding Aromatherapy Scents (Part 1)

Chamomile and Lavender: Making Sense of Scents

These two soothing herbs, chamomile and lavender, share many of the same properties, yet are also distinctly individual. Let’s break down each herb by their scent, properties, and uses to better understand how they can benefit us.

IMG_0749

Chamomile: The flowering herb originates from the Compositae family. With two types of chamomile in our products, both German chamomile and Roman chamomile, they are just as noble as they sound.

German chamomile is native to Europe, carries an intense aroma, and has a natural deep ink blue hue when used in essential oils. This type of chamomile is suitable for babies and children. The properties of this herb help with allergies, aid in calming, and are known to create a sense of balance.

Roman chamomile is native to the southern and western areas of Europe and has a warm apple aroma. With a pale blue color present in essentials oils, this herb aids in calming. Unlike its German cousin, Roman chamomile is not suitable for babies and children.

Both types of chamomile are commonly used as a tea to drink before bedtime to promote relaxation. They also have powerful anti-inflammatory properties and provide a mild sedative effect.

Did you know?

  • Chamomile harvested during the early stages of flowering is best used as a tea infusion to treat anxiety, indigestion, insomnia, muscle pain, and cramps.
  • Chamomile essential oils are commonly used to enhance the body’s ability to fight off infections and inflammation due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • The blossoms of a chamomile plant are the most valuable part, as they are used to make teas, oils, tonics, infusions, and extracts.

Lavender: Another plant with calming properties, lavender is not only beautiful but also useful. Deriving from the Lamiaceae or Labiatae families, dependent upon if it’s the plant or the essential oil, lavender is native to the Mediterranean region. A sweet and floral scent with a colorless to pale yellow color present in the essential oil, this plant can help as an antidepressant, enhances a feeling of calmness and balance, and works as a healer and antiseptic. Best for adults only when applying essential oil directly to skin or using products that contain large amounts of lavender essential oil, lavender works wonders for anxiety, headaches, menstrual cramps, depression, indigestion, sleeplessness, nerve pain, tooth pain, sprains, and even dandruff.

Did you know?

  • Lavender essential oil can help with hair loss, has antimicrobial properties, and may reduce agitation in people with Alzheimer’s. That’s some powerful stuff.
  • Drinking lavender tea can help with insomnia, stress, and exhaustion.
  • Together, chamomile and lavender can be quite the powerhouse. If you have a black eye, apply a few drops of lavender or chamomile oil and witch hazel to a cotton ball and apply to the bruised area (just avoid getting into your eyes). These two can also help with abrasions and blisters, just apply a drop or two to a compress and put over a blister or scrape to help the healing process. A few drops of both oils, mixed with some jojoba oil, can be applied to your hairline and massaged into your scalp to help with headaches. And with bug season upon us, just mix a drop of the two together and apply to bug bites to take the itch away.

Stress-Free Southern Inspired Body Scrubs & Bath Soaks

Have you ever drawn a bath for yourself and poured in a soak or used a scrub, only to be completely irritated by the end of your bath? That’s not exactly the idea behind a good soak. Right?! Time in the tub is meant to be soothing, not insufferable. And a good bath should help you de-stress, not cause skin distress. The culprit of stressful soaks is most likely the use of artificial ingredients and far too much fragrance oil. With my soak and skin care line, a little scent goes a long way on the body.

Everything offered at Southern Belle Products is tried and tested before we sell to you. I know – it’s a tough job trying out soaks and scrubs, but somebody must do it! We offer Bath Salts, Coffee Scrubs, Salt Scrubs, Sugar Scrubs, and Tub Tea. With scents like eucalyptus, lavender, and peppermint, we source all-natural ingredients to provide a naturally relaxing experience. Other ingredients include rosemary, lemon, coconut, lime, almond, chamomile, rose, and oatmeal. We never use artificial ingredients.

Bath Salts are perfect for adding to a warm tub for an aroma therapeutic soak. They can also be added to your shower stream or to a foot soak for an equally refreshing or relaxing experience. Handcrafted from magnesium sulfate, sodium bicarbonate, dead sea salt, and essential oil, there are blends to help with everything from sleep, to sinus congestion, to muscle tension.

Our Coffee Scrubs are the perfect pick me up. With three different strengths crafted from real, fresh coffee grounds, the caffeine properties help improve your body’s circulation as you gently scrub your skin. With use over time, the scrubs have been known to help diminish cellulite and scarring from stretch marks or post-pregnancy skin lines.

Salt Scrubs and Sugar Scrubs help exfoliate your skin and provide much needed moisture, perfect for winter months or a post-outdoor skin revival treatment. Salt Scrubs are excellent for skin that is prone to oiliness and our Sugar Scrubs are a good, gentle choice for dry or sensitive skin. Use in the shower or finish off a bath with either scrub for an all-natural experience.

Tub Teas are like bath salts, yet also provide additional soak elements that are filtered through both a tea bag and cotton muslin bag. Think of it as dunking yourself in a giant tea cup without the mess of the ingredients. The Tub Tea is placed under warm, running bath water and infuses the bathtub with chamomile, rose, lavender, or oatmeal. A perfect way to steep without the mess, as the cotton muslin bag contains everything and is easy to dispose of or store away when you are thoroughly soaked

Visit our store to purchase any of our soaks and scrubs or teas, and then prepare to immerse yourself in total southern inspired skin care.

Prepping for the Great Outdoors with Paracord

Paracord Products for Safety and Survival

You’ve probably seen dozens of paracord products on shelves, online, or on your friend’s wrist. A lot of people like the way paracord products look or they hold significance for them due to military service. Clearly many people love paracord, and you can count me as one of their fans. You will be too once you read about the pros of prepping for day to day life with paracord products.

First introduced by the Air Force during World War II as the suspension lines in parachutes, paracord was an essential material for military members, and then civilians. It quickly became a general-purpose utility cord used around the house and out in the wilderness. Paracord has even proven useful in space to help repair the Hubble Space Telescope!

Fast forward to today and you will find that paracord can be fashioned into many items, allowing the piece to be practical and ready to use should a need arise. Whether you must rig a piece of equipment back together, stop blood flow on an injury, create yourself an extra shoelace or belt, or haul heavy items, paracord has performed countless tasks. All it takes is undoing a bracelet or lanyard, unraveling the paracord, and putting it to good use.

With my own loved ones in the military, paracord has always been present in my life. It wasn’t until I discovered the different ways to fashion the paracord into everyday items that I realized a thin rope could be both fashionable and functional. Today, I offer dozens of items made from paracord. With a tensile strength of 550 pounds and a plethora of color options, there is a paracord product for everyone – including our favorite furry friends.

Southern Belle Products offers Bracelets, Key Fobs, Lanyards, Rifle Slings, Watchbands, Dog Collars, and Dog Leashes handmade from paracord. Reflective paracord options are great for nighttime excursions. For almost every inch of bracelet or collar, you get a full foot of paracord. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving when you need it most!

Visit our store to shop the paracord products and prep yourself (and loved ones) for safety and survival.

Burning the Midnight Oil with Southern Inspired Soy Candles

Soy Candles are the Best Choice for a Better Burn

Imagine you step outside on a bluebird day – in the woods, at a park, inside a garden, alongside a river. What do you smell? Maybe slight hints of grass or the lavender growing nearby. It’s subtle. But memorable. That is what my products aim to provide you. A sensory experience that is calming, not overwhelming. A home filled with feel-good scents, not full of artificial ingredients. A way to unwind and relax, revive and recharge. I have burned the midnight oil many nights (pun intended!) perfecting our candle scents. The result? A perfectly balanced, clean, and nature-inspired candle line that is a better choice for everyone.

With our candles, you can refresh your home with pure and organic scents that are sourced as close to earth as possible. All our candles are made with all natural, clean burning soy wax and essential oils. Natural cotton fiber wicks provide a clean, soot-free burn. Candles range in size from metal tins to glass jars. Our larger sizes feature whole pieces of the scent – think lavender buds, coffee beans, vanilla pods, and cinnamon sticks enmeshed within the wax.

Soy wax candles are a better alternative for you and your family. Why? Many reasons. For one, they don’t increase the CO2 levels in your home like traditional paraffin wax candles do. This means better air quality for all of you – especially important during winter months when homes are closed tight and air flow is low. That’s right, these candles are non-toxic! Healthier for you and the environment. With a cleaner burn also comes a slower burn. You will find our candles last longer than other scented candles.

Additionally, soy wax is naturally biodegradable and far easier to remove in case of a drop or spill. Trust me, I know this first hand! With soy wax, there is also a lower burning point and the essential oils disperse into the air more pleasantly. If you have gotten headaches in the past with other candles, you will find our soy wax candles are far less irritating. A little scent can go a long way!

Visit our store to find your perfect scent.
